  • Wow you lived in Romania! I had no idea. What for and how long? What's it like?

  • Yeah, Craiova, Romania. I was a "missionary" there. My old church used to send teams every summer for a couple of weeks at a time and I did that two times. I loved it so much that me and a friend decided we wanted to do mission work for the whole summer there. So, with church permission and support, we raised the necessary money and worked with some missionaries already there in Craiova. We rented a furnished apartment and ministered to the youth in the church.
Romania was beautiful. They have awesome sceneary - from majestic mountains to the beautiful Black Sea, from fields and fields of sunflowers to old castles in the mountains. The people that we worked with were sooooo nice, a lot probably had to do with the fact that we were young, female Americans. My friend, Jessica, had this really blonde curly hair. She totally stuck out in the midst of all these dark-haired Eastern European people. I fit in pretty well, though. :) Their language was Latin based and just rolled of your tongue - beautiful language. We walked everywhere, or for real long distances, we rode the bus (nothing like our buses!). If we needed bread, we'd walk over to the nearest bakery for some freshly baked delicious bread...mmmmmm good. If we needed fruits and vegetables, we'd walk to the nearest open market, where we'd get some home grown food. It was all quite the experience...one I'm thankful I got to have. Right before I met John, I was going to go back for the summer again. I was also considering being a long term missionary there. But God had different plans for me...better ones. Thanks for reminding me. :)
